How does air classifier in ACM separate particles based on particle size and density? The answer is: through the combination of centrifugal force and airflow, and with several other elements.

How does these elements work?

1. Introduction of airflow:

As material is fed into air classifier mill(ACM), it  enters a chamber where high-speed rotating airflow is generated. This airflow is very important to classifying process. Under the action of high-speed airflow, the material enters classifying chamber through the feeding system. The airflow suspends the material in the high-speed flowing gas, to form a gas-solid two-phase flow. This can ensure that the material is evenly distributed and transported.

2. Centrifugal force:

In air classifier mill, the classifying wheel is a key component. When classifying wheel rotates at high speed, it will generate a strong centrifugal force. This centrifugal force can separate coarse and fine particles that enter the classification area with rising airflow. Fine particles that meet particle size requirements pass through the classifying wheel and enter the next step, while coarse particles are thrown towards chamber wall under the action of centrifugal force, and then fall to the grinding area for further grinding.

3. The inertia of the particles

Fine particles: smaller particles have less inertia and are more easily taken by airflow. They finally discharge through designated fine particle outlet.

Coarse particles: larger particles have greater inertia, so airflow has less impact on them, and they tend to fall back to grinding chamber, for further grinding.

4. Separation mechanism

By adjusting parameters of airflow velocity and rotor speed can enhence the separation effect, and achieve specific particle size distribution.

5. Regrinding circulation system

Oversized particles that do not meet requirement will return to the grinding chamber for further grinding until achieving qualified fineness.
